In other reviews of the SY-1000 I didn’t read about the (noticable) delay in the OSC Synth. Hence I’m presenting a short list of pros and cons with audio samples of the SY-1000 here.
There are great reviews on the SY-1000 on the internet.
- This one by Benn Jordan discusses the SY-1000 as a synthesizer in detail.
- Here’s a cool demo from NAMM2020 showing what the synthesizer in the SY-1000 can do.
- This one by GAK is nicely structured.
There are more, only listing a few here.
- This one by Leon Todd demo’s the Intrument Modelling
- This one by EytschPi42 demo’s the presets
- And so does this one by Guiter Bonedo
- And this one by Rabea Massaad provides some inspiration.
After buying and using the SY-1000 for a week I noticed there’s delay when using the synth. Audio samples below so you can assess for yourself if you consider this acceptable.
I’m still happy with the unit and would buy it again.
This is not a full product review. I’m sharing these key observations as I did not see them being mentioned in the reviews. I’ve also listed some other points which I personally consider important:
|-||There’s (noticeable) delay when using the synth. There’s no (noticeable) delay when using the dynamic synth or only the amp models/effects.|
|-||Only 48kHz, no 96kHz which is there on the GT-1000.|
|-||The input sensitivity on the effect loop in can’t be adjusted. I can’t use the 4 cable method as the effect send from my TT50 leads to clipping on the effect return of the SY1000. Using the SY1000 solely in front of the TT50 works fine though.|
|+/-||Unlike the GT-1000 the SY-1000 does not have bluetooth. Hence there’s no software for iOS and Android. I suppose this is done to save cost.|
|+||Amp models are good. I’m having a hard time differentiating between my Laney TT50 (tube amp) and the SY-1000 amp models.|
|+||Pitch shifter is usable, especially with distortion.|
|+||With a GK pickup pitch shifting a single string is possible, enabling alternate tuning without re-tuning the guitar.|
|+||Boss Tone Studio for editing presets on Windows and macOS.|
